Dinagyang
The most spectacular and best-organized festival in the Philippines, held in Iloilo City. The Dinagyang celebrates the Santo Nino and the arrival of the Malay settlers in Panay. The festival features a fierce street dance competition where tribes in elaborate costumes perform choreographies with drums, chants, and body paint. The tribes practice for months and the competition is intense. The festival also includes a fluvial procession on the Iloilo River and a reenactment of the barter of Panay between the Ati and the Malays. Over 1 million visitors attend each year.
