Regional/Cultural Day
Dia de la Cruz
The Day of the Cross is celebrated with the tradition of placing a wooden cross in the yard, decorating it with flowers, and offering food and drink to the spirits. The Day of the Cross is a blend of Catholic and Andean traditions, and it is one of the most important folk holidays in Peru. The cross is not just a Catholic symbol. It is also an Andean symbol (the chakana, the Inca cross, represents the three levels of existence: the underworld, the earth, and the heavens).
