The night of bonfires. Paraguayans jump over flames for purification and courage, following a tradition that predates Christianity by centuries. Children roast chipa on sticks over the fire. The chipa that falls into the ashes is considered the best one. No one can explain why.

Every school and neighborhood sets up a fair with traditional games: pelota tata (fireball), tira de sogas (tug of war), and carrera de sachos (sack races). The food is chipa, empanadas, and mbejyu.
