A day for the humble places where strangers rest, elders talk, children wait, and towns quietly reveal themselves.
A celebration of the sombrero pintao, the traditional woven hat of Panama that is often confused with the so-called Panama hat, which actually originates from Ecuador. The sombrero pintao is made from plant fibers including bellota, junco, and pita, woven by artisans in the interior provinces of La Pintada and Penonome. Unlike the Ecuadorian Panama hat, the sombrero pintao is genuinely Panamanian and is recognized as a symbol of rural identity and folk tradition.
