Dia del Diablo Rojo

An unofficial celebration of Panama's iconic Diablo Rojo buses, the brightly painted school buses that served as the country's primary public transportation for decades. Each Diablo Rojo was a rolling work of art, decorated with murals of saints, superheroes, animals, and philosophical slogans, topped with chrome exhaust pipes and blaring reggaeton or salsa music. Named for their reckless driving and devil-may-care attitude, the Diablo Rojos were phased out starting in 2013 but remain a beloved symbol of Panamanian folk culture and urban chaos.
