Yawm al-Ard
The anniversary of the 1976 Land Day, when six Palestinian citizens of Israel were killed by Israeli forces during protests over the confiscation of Palestinian land in the Galilee. The day is observed with rallies, protests, and the planting of olive trees : sumud (steadfastness) embodied in roots sunk deep into the soil. Land Day is one of the most important dates on the Palestinian calendar, uniting Palestinians inside Israel, in the occupied territories, and in the diaspora.
