Dia de la Independencia
Argentina declared independence in Tucuman in 1816, and the Casa Historica stands there still. Families gather for locro, empanadas, and pastelitos, the fried pastry with sweet potato that appears on every independence table. The asado runs all afternoon and someone always plays folklore on guitar.

Honoring Palau's first president, Haruo Remeliik, who was assassinated in 1985. The case has never been fully resolved, and every Palauan has a theory. AHA: Remeliik was shot outside his home in what was officially called a robbery, but the political context : he was pushing for the nuclear-free constitution against powerful pro-American interests : has never sat right with the public. His death is a wound in the national story that never fully closed.
