The main Christmas celebration in Norway takes place on Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day. The rice pudding with the hidden almond is served for dessert, and the family walks around the Christmas tree holding hands and singing carols. The Julenissen (Norwegian Santa Claus) arrives with gifts, and the evening is the highlight of the Norwegian year.
