World Theatre Day

The day is observed in Nigeria with performances at the National Theatre in Lagos (the largest theatre in West Africa), and the focus is on the vibrant Nigerian theatre tradition. The Nigerian theatre has produced some of the finest playwrights in Africa (Wole Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and Chinua Achebe, the author of "Things Fall Apart"), and the day is a celebration of the power of theatre to tell the Nigerian story.
