A day celebrating the Dutch pannenkoek, which is large, thin, and served with a variety of toppings. The Dutch pancake is not like the American pancake: it is the size of a dinner plate, and it can be savory (with bacon, cheese, and onions) or sweet (with apples, raisins, and powdered sugar). The tradition is to eat pannenkoeken at a pannenkoekenhuis (pancake restaurant), and the best pannenkoekenhuizen are located in old farms and windmills. The Dutch pancake is also served as a traditional meal on New Year's Eve, and the saying goes that the thinner the pancake, the better the cook. The largest pancake ever made in the Netherlands was 13 meters in diameter.
