Prajatantra Diwas
The anniversary of the 1951 revolution that overthrew the Rana regime and restored the monarchy under King Tribhuvan. The day is observed with military parades, flag hoisting, and speeches. Nepal has been through three revolutions (1951, 1990, and 2006) and two constitutions (1990 and 2015), and the day is both celebration and reflection on the fragility of democracy. Schools organize essay competitions on the meaning of freedom, and the media publishes retrospectives on the democratic movement. The road from revolution to the federal republic of 2015 has been long and unfinished.
