Nari Diwas

Observed with events organized by women's groups across Nepal, the day highlights demands for equal rights, an end to gender-based violence, and recognition of women's contributions to the economy. Nepal has one of the highest rates of child marriage in Asia, with 33 percent of girls married before 18, and remittance workers are overwhelmingly men, leaving women to manage households and farms alone. Marches fill the streets of Kathmandu, and NGOs release reports on the status of women. The day is both celebration and demand for a country where women's labor sustains the economy but remains undervalued.
