A day for knowing where things are kept, why nobody can find the tape, and how a home quietly teaches its own geography.
Buada Lagoon is the only freshwater body on Nauru : a landlocked brackish lake in the island's interior, surrounded by the mined-out pinnacles that make the interior look like another planet. The lagoon is a bizarre oasis: green water surrounded by white coral spires. It is not safe for swimming, but it is sacred for existing at all. On an island with no rivers and no streams, this one body of still water is a miracle of geology.
