A day celebrating the Nauruan language, which is spoken nowhere else on Earth. It is a language isolate : no confirmed relationship to any other language family. Every word in Nauruan is a tiny act of preservation, because if the 12,000 people who speak it stop, the language simply ceases to exist. There is no diaspora, no second homeland, no backup.
