Eo Eiyeg Eo Naoero
A day of national identity, celebrated with traditional dance (buibui), music, and food. The buibui is performed by women in grass skirts and flower garlands, and the movements are slow, synchronized, and hypnotic. The men perform the warrior dance with sticks, and the children watch and learn. On Nauru, cultural transmission happens in real time, because there is no village that is more than a ten-minute walk away.
