Anzac Day

Nauru was administered by Australia for much of the 20th century, and ANZAC Day is observed with a dawn service at the cenotaph. The irony is thick: Australian soldiers fought to liberate Nauru from Japan in 1945, and decades later Australia would pay Nauru to house the refugees Australia did not want. History rhymes, even on a 21-kilometer island.

Animals of Papua New Guinea Day

You witness tree kangaroos, birds of paradise, and saltwater crocodiles as the most distinctive wildlife native to Papua New Guinea. You notice that people in Papua New Guinea most commonly keep dogs, chickens, and native cassowaries as pets. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
