Children's Day

A socialist holiday, observed with school events and the reminder that 30% of Lao children are stunted due to malnutrition. The day is both celebration and call to action, and the government uses it to promote child health and education.

The children of Nauru are taken to Anibare Bay, the best beach on the island. The bay is a crescent of white coral sand on the eastern coast, and the water is calm and turquoise. On Children's Day, the beach fills with families grilling fish on portable stoves, and the kids swim until their lips turn blue. The beach is a five-minute walk from anywhere on the island, but it still feels like a destination.

You spot the spotted hyena, African forest elephant, and western chimpanzee roaming Guinea's savannas and rainforests. You see that Guinean households most often keep goats, chickens, and dogs for both practical and companionship purposes. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
