Eo Eibwia Eo Eiyeg Eo Naoero
A day of remembrance for the Nauruans who were forcibly relocated during the Japanese occupation (1942-1945). Nearly the entire population was evacuated to Truk (now Chuuk), where a third died of starvation and disease. The survivors returned to find their island scarred but still theirs. The trauma is still spoken of in the same breath as the phosphate : two forces that reshaped the population.
