San Herdenking

A day honoring the San people, also known as Bushmen, who are the oldest culture on earth with a history spanning over 20,000 years in what is now Namibia. The San were the original inhabitants of Southern Africa, and their rock art at Twyfelfontein (a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 2,500 engravings) dates back 6,000 years. Today approximately 38,000 San live in Namibia, and many have been displaced from their traditional hunting lands. The day includes exhibitions of San rock art, traditional tracking demonstrations, and discussions about land rights and cultural preservation.
