A day for the tiny things people carry because life becomes easier when string, coins, notes, keys, or a tool are close at hand.
A day of remembrance and cultural celebration for the Herero people, commemorating the 1904-1908 genocide in which German colonial forces killed an estimated 80% of the Herero population. The Herero women wear distinctive Victorian-style dresses with horn-shaped hats (otjikaiva) that symbolize cattle, the measure of Herero wealth. The day includes a military-style parade through Okahandja, the political capital of the Herero, and the laying of wreaths at the graves of Herero chiefs Samuel Maharero and Hosea Kutako.
You witness the incredible diversity of mountain gorillas, tree-climbing lions, and shoebill storks across Uganda's varied ecosystems. You see that dogs, cats, and chickens are the most common pets kept by Ugandan families. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
