Skeerkolkfees

A coastal remembrance day honoring the shipwrecked sailors of the Skeleton Coast, one of the most treacherous coastlines on earth. The dense fog from the Benguela Current combined with the pounding surf has claimed hundreds of vessels. The most famous wrecks include the Eduard Bohlen (1909), the Dunedin Star (1942), and the Zhong Chuan (2018). Locals lay wreaths at wreck sites and share stories of survival and loss along the fog-bound shore.

Tourists walk towards ancient pyramids in the Sudanese desert under a clear blue sky.
