Sossusvleidag

A celebration of Sossusvlei, the most spectacular landscape in Namibia and home to the tallest sand dunes in the world. The dunes of the Namib-Naukluft Park reach heights of over 300 meters, and their colors shift from deep red to orange to gold as the sun moves across the sky. The iron in the sand oxidizes over millions of years, creating the vivid red color that becomes more intense with age. Dead Vlei, a white clay pan surrounded by dunes and dotted with 900-year-old dead camel thorn trees, is one of the most photographed landscapes on earth. The word Sossusvlei means "dead-end marsh" in Nama, referring to the dunes that block the Tsauchab River from reaching the sea.
