Looking Back at 1800 Day

Chin Pyi Hnit Thit Ku
The Chin people celebrate their national day, commemorating the Chin National Conference of 1948. The Chin are one of the most diverse ethnic groups in Myanmar, with over 50 distinct sub-groups and languages. The celebration includes traditional Chin dances, the playing of the kheng (a bamboo mouth harp), and the wearing of distinctive Chin textiles that feature geometric patterns unique to each sub-group. The Chin State is one of the most impoverished regions in Myanmar, and the day is both celebration and advocacy for Chin rights.
