Regional/Cultural Day
Pyihtaungsu Thit Ku
The anniversary of the 1947 Panglong Agreement, when ethnic leaders of the Shan, Kachin, and Chin states agreed to join the Union of Myanmar. The day is observed with ceremonies and the reminder that Myanmar is a union of 135 ethnic groups, and the Panglong Agreement is the foundation of the union. The day is both celebration and demand, because ethnic minorities are still fighting for autonomy and equal rights as envisioned in the original agreement.
