Tatmadaw Nei

The anniversary of the 1945 revolt of the Myanmar military against the Japanese occupation. The day is observed with a military parade, the commander-in-chief's address, and the reminder that the military has been the most powerful institution in Myanmar since the 1962 coup. The day is controversial, because the Tatmadaw has been accused of human rights abuses including the persecution of the Rohingya, the suppression of ethnic minorities, and the violent crackdown on pro-democracy protests.
