Regional/Cultural Day
Dia da Crianca
The day honoring children, and the celebration includes school events, the giving of gifts, and the tradition of taking the children to the beach. Mozambique has 2,500 kilometers of coastline on the Indian Ocean, and the beaches are among the most beautiful in Africa. The day is also a reminder that 48% of Mozambican children live in poverty, and that the country has one of the highest rates of child marriage in Africa. The government uses the day to launch vaccination campaigns, school enrollment drives, and nutrition programs.
