Morocco celebrates its African identity and its historical connections to the continent. The day is observed with cultural events, exhibitions of African art, and the reminder that Morocco is both a Mediterranean and an African nation. The African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa still has a seat reserved for Morocco despite its long absence from the organization.
