Amazigh New Year

The Amazigh (Berber) New Year is celebrated on January 13, and it is one of the most important cultural events in the Amazigh calendar. The celebration includes the preparation of special dishes (couscous with seven vegetables, tagines, and pastries), the singing of Amazigh songs, and the wearing of traditional Amazigh dress. The Amazigh New Year is a celebration of the Amazigh identity, and it is a reminder that the Amazigh people are the indigenous people of North Africa, with a history that predates the Arab conquest. The Amazigh language (Tamazight) has been an official language of Morocco since 2011, and the Amazigh New Year has been a public holiday since 2024.
