The day is observed with flowers, chocolates, and the tradition of giving every woman in your life a flower. The flower sellers are on every street corner, and the most popular flower is the mimosa. The day is both celebration and demand, and the signs say: "Equal pay for equal work" and "End domestic violence." In nomadic communities, the women are given the day off from milking, cooking, and herding, and the men take over the chores (often with comic results).
