Khunii Erkh

The anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, and the day is observed with events organized by civil society groups, NGOs, and the National Human Rights Commission. The day is especially important in Mongolia because the country transitioned from communism to democracy in 1990, and the human rights situation has improved dramatically since then. The events focus on the rights of nomadic herders (who face displacement from mining and climate change), the rights of women (who face domestic violence and wage discrimination), and the rights of ethnic minorities (especially the Kazakh eagle hunters and the Tsaatan reindeer herders).
