Rentrée Scolaire

The first day of school in Monaco, and the tradition is to take a photo of the children in front of the school gate. The schools in Monaco are among the best in the world (the literacy rate is 99%, and the student-teacher ratio is 10:1), and the education is free for all residents. Monaco has a unique school system: the curriculum is French, but Monégasque language and history are taught as compulsory subjects. The Lycée Albert Ier, the principality's main high school, is named after the prince who governed Monaco from 1889 to 1922 and who was a pioneer of oceanography. The International School of Monaco, a private school founded in 1994, offers the International Baccalaureate in English and French, and its students go on to the world's best universities.
