Fête de Sainte Dévote : Procession
The eve of Saint Devote's feast day marks the beginning of Monaco's most important religious celebration. A ceremonial boat is carried through the streets of La Condamine in a torchlit procession, accompanied by the Palais Princier guards in full uniform, members of the clergy, and the faithful singing Monégasque hymns. The procession ends at the Esplanade of the Église Sainte-Dévote, where the boat is prepared for the following day's burning. Saint Devote, a 4th-century Corsican martyr, is the patron saint of Monaco, and her legend says her boat drifted across the Mediterranean to the Monégasque shore : the same shore where today's superyachts anchor for the Grand Prix.
