Fête des Mères

The day honoring mothers, and the celebration includes family gatherings, the giving of gifts, and the traditional meal of barbagiuan, socca (chickpea flatbread), and fougasse (sweet bread with orange blossom and anise). The mother is the center of the Monégasque family, and the day is both celebration and acknowledgment. In a principality where the Princess is the symbolic mother of the nation, the day carries special resonance : the memory of Princess Grace, who was the embodiment of maternal grace and who founded the AMADE (World Association of Children's Friends) to protect vulnerable children worldwide, is invoked in speeches and ceremonies.
