Princess Grace Memorial

On September 14, 1982, Princess Grace of Monaco : the former Grace Kelly, the Hollywood icon who became a princess : died from injuries sustained in a car crash on the Moyenne Corniche, the winding road that connects Monaco to Nice. She was 52 years old. The accident occurred when she suffered a stroke while driving, and her car plunged down the mountainside. Her daughter, Princess Stephanie, who was in the passenger seat, survived. The death of Princess Grace was a trauma from which Monaco never fully recovered : she had been the principality's greatest ambassador, its conscience, and its soul. Each year, on the anniversary of her death, the Monégasques lay flowers at her tomb in the Cathedral and at the site of the accident on the Moyenne Corniche. The Princess Grace Irish Library, the Princess Grace Hospital, and the Princess Rose Garden in the Exotic Garden are among the monuments that bear her name.
