World Health Day is observed in Moldova with a focus on public health campaigns. The medical schools in Chisinau organize free health screenings, and the Ministry of Health launches campaigns against smoking, alcohol abuse, and tuberculosis. Moldova has one of the highest rates of tuberculosis in Europe, and the day is a reminder of the challenges facing the healthcare system. The tradition is to drink a glass of red wine (for the heart) and to walk in the park (for the body).
