Schimbarea la Fata
The feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated in Moldova with the blessing of grapes and fruit. The tradition is to bring grapes, apples, and plums to the church, and the priest blesses them before they are eaten. The day marks the beginning of the grape harvest, and the vineyards of Moldova are full of workers picking the grapes that will become wine. The best grapes are taken to the church, and the rest are taken to the winery. The day is also the name day for everyone named Schimbarea (a rare name) and the tradition is to prepare a feast of fruit, wine, and placinta.
