Ziua Sfantului Petru si Pavel
The feast of Saints Peter and Paul is one of the most important religious holidays of the summer. The tradition is to prepare fish (because the holiday falls during the Apostles' Fast, when meat is forbidden), and the best fish in Moldova is the crap (carp) from the Prut River. The day is also the name day for everyone named Petru, Pavel, Petrea, or Pavlina, and they celebrate with cake and wine. The church is decorated with flowers, and the priest tells the story of how Peter and Paul were martyred in Rome.
