Cinco de Mayo
The anniversary of the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The day is celebrated in Puebla with a military parade, a reenactment of the battle, and the eating of mole poblano (the most complex dish in Mexican cuisine, with over 30 ingredients and a preparation time of 24 hours). The Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence Day (that's September 16), and it is NOT a major holiday in Mexico (it is mostly celebrated in Puebla). The day is more popular in the United States than in Mexico, where it has been commercialized as a day of drinking and partying.
