Regional/Cultural Day
Dia de la Bandera
The anniversary of the Mexican flag, which was adopted on February 24, 1821. The flag is green (hope), white (unity), and red (the blood of the heroes), and the center features an eagle devouring a serpent on a prickly pear cactus (the founding myth of Tenochtitlan). The day is observed with ceremonies at schools, government buildings, and military bases, and the flag is flown on every building.
