Natalicio de Benito Juarez

The birthday of Benito Juarez, the most revered president in Mexican history, who was a Zapotec Indian from Oaxaca who became a lawyer, a governor, and the president who defeated the French occupation (1862-1867). Juarez is famous for the phrase "Entre los individuos, como entre las naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz" (Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace). The day is observed with ceremonies, and the reminder that Juarez was a president who came from the people and fought for the people.
