The anniversary of the Battle of Chapultepec in 1847, when six teenage military cadets died defending the castle against the American invasion. The day is observed with ceremonies at the monument to the Ninos Heroes in Chapultepec Park, and the reminder that the cadets were between 13 and 19 years old. The most famous is Juan Escutia, who wrapped himself in the Mexican flag and jumped from the castle rather than surrender.
