Kanu Pongal

The third day of Pongal is dedicated to birds, and the tradition is to place colored rice balls on banana leaves outside the house for crows and other birds. The women of the household perform a ritual prayer for the well-being of their brothers, and the colored rice is a symbol of the bond between siblings. The day reinforces the connection between humans and nature, which is central to Tamil tradition in Mauritius.
