The second day of the new year is also a public holiday in Mauritius, and it is a day of rest, family gatherings, and the continuation of the new year celebration. The tradition is to visit the beach, and the beaches at Flic en Flac, Mont Choisy, and Pereybere are full of families enjoying the summer weather. The day is also used for visiting extended family that could not be seen on Jan 1, and the roads between towns are busy with traffic from morning until evening.
