Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by the Chinese community in Mauritius, and it commemorates the poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC. The festival includes dragon boat races in the Grand River South East, and the teams paddle in rhythm to the beat of a drum. The festival also includes the eating of zongzi (sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves), and the drinking of realgar wine.
