Fete Nationale

The anniversary of Mauritius's independence from Britain on March 12, 1968. The celebration includes a military parade at the Champ de Mars, the president's address, and the flying of the Mauritian flag (red, blue, yellow, and green). The flag was designed to symbolize the blood of the martyrs (red), the Indian Ocean (blue), the sunshine (yellow), and the vegetation (green). The day is both celebration and reflection, because the independence was achieved through negotiation, not war, and the Mauritian model of multicultural democracy is a success story. Fireworks light up the sky over Port Louis, and the national anthem "Motherland" is sung with pride.

Products of United States Minor Outlying Islands Day

You acknowledge that the US Minor Outlying Islands have no significant commercial brands of their own, as these territories are largely uninhabited or military installations. You recognize instead that American brands like Coca-Cola and Campbell's reach these remote locations through US military and government supply chains.
