Chinatown Festival
The Chinatown Festival is held in the Chinatown of Port Louis, and it celebrates the Chinese heritage of Mauritius. The festival includes lion dances, dragon dances, Chinese martial arts demonstrations, and the sale of Chinese food. The Chinatown in Port Louis is one of the oldest in Africa, and it was established in the 19th century by Hakka immigrants. The festival also includes the traditional tea ceremony, calligraphy demonstrations, and the lighting of fireworks. The Chinese community in Mauritius has preserved its language (Hakka), its cuisine, and its customs, and the Chinatown Festival is a celebration of that heritage. . 2026: Jan 29. 2027: Feb 17.
