The feast of St Lawrence is celebrated in the village of Vittoriosa, and the celebration includes a procession, fireworks, and the traditional meal of rabbit stew. Vittoriosa is one of the Three Cities, and the church of St Lawrence was the first church built by the Knights of St John after they arrived in Malta in 1530. The feast is a reminder that the Knights of St John were a religious order as well as a military one, and that the faith of the Knights was as important as their swords. The church of St Lawrence contains the tomb of the first Grand Master of the Knights in Malta, Philippe Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, and the church is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture.
