World Calendar Day

Dia de la Mujer

National holiday since 2024. The marches through Santiago are among the largest in Latin America, filling the Alameda from La Moneda to Baquedano with green scarves and fierce conviction. Chilean feminism has its own voice and it does not ask permission.

Women's Day

Observed with events organized by the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services. The demands include equal rights, an end to domestic violence, and recognition of women's contributions to the economy. The Maldives has one of the highest rates of divorce in the world, and women face significant barriers in political participation despite comprising the majority of university graduates. Women's Day marches in Malé are vibrant, loud, and confrontational : with banners addressing gender-based violence, inheritance inequality, and the underrepresentation of women in parliament. The contrast between the resort image of the Maldives (romantic, serene, luxury) and the lived reality of Maldivian women is stark, and the day is both celebration and demand.
