Fetin'ny Mozika

The Malagasy celebrate music day with free concerts in every city and town, and the music includes hira gasy (traditional theater and music), salegy (the dance music of the north), tsapika (the dance music of the south), and valiha (the tube zither that is the national instrument). The valiha is made from a species of bamboo, and the strings are made from the outer fibers of the bamboo itself, plucked and raised to create a resonance that is unmistakably Malagasy.
