Fetin'i Afrika

The anniversary of the founding of the African Union in 1963. Madagascar is a member of the African Union, and the day is observed with cultural events, music, and the wearing of African fabrics. The Malagasy identity is both African and Asian (the Malagasy language is of Austronesian origin, and the people are of mixed Austronesian and African descent), and the day is a reminder that Madagascar is part of the African continent even though the first Malagasy arrived by canoe from Borneo, not from the African mainland.

Animals of Slovakia Day

You spot the brown bears, gray wolves, and lynx that roam the High Tatras mountains and forests of Slovakia. You typically see pet dogs, cats, and rabbits as common household animals throughout Slovak homes. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
